The people behind ReStory

Professional expertise. Personal understanding.

ReStory brings together Donna McCormack and Lisa Doran’s professional practice, parenthood and lived experience of neurodivergence.

Our shared starting point

Because there is more
to every person’s story.

Donna and Lisa each bring more than 20 years of professional experience working alongside people and families.

Across their careers, they have seen how labels, assumptions and environments can shape people’s experiences of support. Parenthood brought many of those professional questions closer to home.

ReStory grows from that shared interest in understanding people in context: their relationships, strengths, values, identities and preferred ways of communicating.

What shapes ReStory

Practice, reflection
and lived experience.

ReStory draws on narrative practice and neurodiversity-affirming perspectives, alongside the knowledge Donna and Lisa bring as practitioners and parents.

The framework creates space to explore the stories people hold about themselves, how those stories have developed, and what other accounts of their strengths, identities and possibilities may also be true.

Its practical questions help participants look at context, communication and support before settling on a single explanation for behaviour.

Our commitment

Respectful, reflective
and responsive practice.

ReStory recognises the continuing strength, knowledge and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the importance of Aboriginal-led approaches to healing, connection and wellbeing.

We acknowledge the ways colonisation, racism, trauma, ableism and systemic disadvantage can shape people’s experiences and access to support.

The ReStory framework does not claim to represent Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, doing or healing. We remain committed to listening, learning and reflecting on how practice can support cultural safety, local relevance and self-determination.
